Brodovitch's "Ballet"
Alexey Brodovitch's work as an art director (Harper's Bazaar, 1934-1958) and book designer (one example, Avedon's "Observations") is well-documented. Did you know he also brought his excellent eye to the camera? He photographed the Ballet Russe between 1935 and 1937, then designed an exquisite book, "Ballet," released in 1945, which features the magical, atmospheric images. It had a very limited print run, but if you're intent on finding a copy, the folks at Dashwood Books may be able to help.
