Danse Serpentine
Yesterday I popped into MoMA to check out the exhibition "On Line," a wide-ranging show which expands the definition of drawing to creating lines in various mediums, paper to sculpture, film to dance. At the entrance is a mesmerizing video of a performer dancing in the style of Loie Fuller, a revolutionary artist in the late 19th Century. You'll see in this video that the dancer uses bamboo sticks under her undulating gown to "paint" lines in space. Live, these performances featured elaborate lighting. In this film, each frame is hand-colored. Quite amazing for the time.
