The Gullwing
I recently had the good fortune to spend time with an exquisite Mercedes Benz 300SL. In its original incarnation, the 300SL was a racing car (c. 1952). The tubular frame passed across the door opening, prompting engineer Rudolf Uhlenhaut to design the distinctive gullwing doors. A street model was introduced in '55, at which point the doors made quite an aesthetic statement. This model has lipstick red luggage tucked in back. Perfect for zipping off to the shore. Or zipping off to anywhere, for that matter.
